Building a High-Performance Leadership Team

By Bob Gershberg, CEO/Managing Partner, Wray Executive Search

If you want your enterprise to shine in 2022 and beyond, focus on the quality of your leadership team now. Winning companies are most often the result of a consistent and high level of team performance, which allows them to lap their competition and enjoy economies of scale. However, modern-day organizations are finding it increasingly harder to find leaders that can deliver such performance. Research shows that 70% of U.S. based employees do not work at their full potential. Half the current workforce is only concerned about their paychecks with little interest in what goes on in the workplace. These actively disengaged employees cost companies billions in lost productivity and poor management.

Modern leaders must understand how to inspire and motivate their employees, which requires taking a proactive stance when it comes to managing their subordinates. They must become the driving force behind growth and coordination in the workplace – focusing on company priorities as well as the individual goals of each employee. It is well-known fact that the key component of a successful business is a good and functional team, so it is important to create an atmosphere in which employees feel appreciated, more productive, and motivated to give their best so that the company could grow and be more successful. Only with the right leadership team in place can we expect to create a workforce that feels empowered to play their role in the growth of the business.

Senior leaders who have team-developing leadership skills, know just how to create active and high performing groups of managerial leaders. They can implement processes that help their teams come together and be more productive together. Create clarity and alignment so the team will be better equipped to deal with any uncertainties as they arise. Craft specific, measurable, achievable, and reasonable goals, and make sure each team member knows what is expected of him/her.

Communication is exceedingly important for completing tasks effectively. Keep in mind that the lack of it would get your workforce nowhere. Leadership is not about pressing forward with set ideas and decisions. Include the leadership team in the strategic processes. Gain their perspectives, opinions, ideas, and vision for the company. The leadership team is a part of your workflow, and their advice and recommendations can help you make well-informed decisions.

Be mindful of the need for personal and professional development. Prioritize education and learning. By encouraging development of your employees, you equip them with the skills and knowledge to improve their performance.

To keep the workforce engaged, a leader must go above and beyond to build high-performance self-functioning teams, which are ready to face all challenges with resilience. Having high-performance teams means better productivity and greater growth capability.

If you want to hit it out of the park, it is critical to have a team of leaders who can bring the mission to fruition!

Be well! Stay safe!

All the best,
