Executive Chat with Darryl Gaddis, President and Founder of Jaws Jumbo Burgers
By Rebecca Patt, SVP Development, Wray Executive Search
Jaws Jumbo Burgers is located in White House, TN, with plans to expand in FL and AZ. President and founder Darryl Gaddis has been developing the concept ever since he saw the movie Jaws in the 1970s and realized the massive appeal of giant sharks, offering menu items such as the Jaws Frenzee Double Burger and the Jaws Triple Megalodon and luring back many repeat customers.
What inspired you to start Jaws Jumbo Burgers?
In 1976 the name of my restaurant was Paradise Sub Shoppe. That same year, I saw the movie Jaws. I thought the Jaws movie would make a great restaurant concept. In 1984, I opened Jaws Super Subs. In 1985, I created the Jaws Frenzee Double Burger. We were selling so many burgers in 1986 we changed our name to Jaws Jumbo Burgers.
What makes the concept different from other burger joints out there?
We fresh grind 100% sirloin beef at our restaurant every day. No restaurant grinds their own beef, therefore we have no competition. We make everything fresh and cooked to order. Our portions are huge, and you get the bang for your buck. We are not pricey. We want to see you 3-4 times a week and we do.
What is your plan to grow and evolve the business?
We are expanding our brand nationwide though a Revolutionary License Partnership Program. Our program allows our Partners to own 99.5% of the business with no weekly royalty fees, no POS system required, no weekly sales or auditing reporting, no weekly advertising fees and no costly build outs. My Partnership License Program will allow my partners to keep over 85% of the money they collect from their Jaws Jumbo Burgers Restaurant. Keeping Over 85% of the money collected in the franchise system is unheard of.
What is the most exciting thing that has happened to you as CEO of the company?
The most exciting thing that has happened to me is that I have finally assembled a crew and management team to open Jaws Jumbo Burgers in Florida and Arizona. Finding people that can see and believe in your vision is very, very hard…. but not impossible.
